Port Elizabeth Backpackers

This warm, homely backpackers is located in a 100-year-old building in one of Port Elizabeth's oldest and most interesting suburbs. It's within walking distance of the beach, places to eat and drink, shops, clubs, parks, museums and transport and has a wonderful view of the sea and harbour from the rooms.

The hostel is clean, light and airy, with original Oregon Pine flooring. There is a common room with a television, games and library and an outside courtyard with a braai area. Laundry facilities are offered, and a well-stocked kitchen and bar are available for general use. But why cook for yourself? Hearty breakfasts are served daily, and other meals are also offered, including regular braais and potjies, which are traditional to the South African way of life.

Various tours and trips are available, including visits to game parks, a township tour, Addo Elephant tours, sandboarding, and lifts to some of the best beaches in the world! St Georges Park complex, which includes PE's cricket grounds (and the first cricket club in the country), is just a stroll away.

You can also stay with Violet, PE Backpackers' domestic cleaner, at her home in a nearby township, and experience first hand how millions of people in South Africa live. Accommodation, dinner and breakfast with Violet costs R100.

Free pick ups are offered from the airport, station and bus stations. Baz bus stops at the hostel, and tickets for the Baz Bus, Greyhound and Intercape are sold there.
